Endurance Ireland Training Day
February 17 @ 10:30 am - 3:30 pm€30
We will have our first training day of the season in Stradbally Hall courtesy of Thomas Cosby. This session will be open to members and non members.
The day will begin at 10.30 am with a morning of riding followed by lunch and then two learning sessions.
The morning will begin with a walk through of the checks involved in the vet gate, that will be followed with a brief session giving details of what is required for crewing. A demonstration of how to crew horses will be given followed by the ridden section. The ridden section will involve riders pacing their horses (learning to get a feel of the speeds) and understand that 12, 13, 14 kph while sounding fast is actually not that formidable.
For riders to benefit from this we would ask riders to ride on their own or as a pair, if they feel more comfortable.
The sessions will all be done with the help of our people on the ground to let everyone know how they are doing and to answer questions. It is a super way to get out and have some fun too. The riding will take place in front of the main house.
Once the ridden portion is complete, we will provide lunch (a quick one) and then we will have two speakers. The first speaker Kevin Croke will give a talk on nutrition and hydration followed by strength and conditioning (core balance etc). Kevin is a former elite level rugby player who completed his BSc in sport science in DCU. He has worked in sport performance support in a wide range of organisations including UCD Institute of Sport and the National Athlete Development Academy. Kevin is currently in UCD with UCD RFC. Through his father Kevin Snr and sister Yvonne he has a strong understanding of equestrian endurance. We will also have a representative from Connolly Red Mills who will give a talk on equine nutrition, focused towards performance.
Riders cost : €30
Non riders : €15.
Entries must be made by SUNDAY 10th of FEB
